7 tips that helped me to get active in the morning.

Do you know that feeling when the alarm goes off but you’re all snuggled up and the only thing you want to do is to hit the snooze button over and over again? This was so me until last year winter. If you are reading this and it feels like I am talking to you, this might be your life saver! It’s time to stop snoozing your life away.

There is literally no better way to start your day than it is to start with a great workout.
It sets the tone for the rest of your day and it will make you feel like you really accomplished something. The benefits of a workout in the morning are endless, yet there are so many people who prefer to stay in bed for 10 minutes longer. Setting the alarm 10 minutes earlier feels like a punishment when in reality it’s actually a privilege to be in charge of  your morning. Most of us are in a rush from the moment we jump out of bed until we go to sleep again, but if you can teach yourself the good habit to set your alarm 10 minutes earlier, you will get the chance to really invest that time in yourself and not only in the people that already depend on you throughout the day. It will bring more quality to your life and to me personally this has really been the game changer. It sets you in a good mood without even trying!

With that said, it’s easier to say than it is to do, I get it. Everybody is in a different situation and has a different morning routine, but if you can sleep 10 minutes longer, you can for sure wake up 10 minutes earlier too. At first it will be hard and you might need to push yourself to get out, but once you got through it, you will start to notice that it will get easier day by day. It’s all about creating a habit that eventually will happen very naturally.

Now let’s get started! These 7 tips really helped to make it work for me, so there’s a good chance it will work for you as well.

1) Your morning starts before you go to bed
Planning is key! If you make sure that you planned your morning the evening before, you’ll have less stress and excuses to skip your workout. One of the things that really helped me was to put my workout gear and attributes next to my bed. Being prepared will spare you a lot of time and seeing your workout gear the first thing in the morning will immediately put your mind on the right frequency. The last thing you should be doing in the morning is strolling around the house losing precious time searching.
Here’s what’s next to my bed;
1) workout gear
2) Yoga mat
3) 1 light weight

2) Put your phone on the other side of the room
Before I started doing my workouts in the morning, I was a real snooze-a-holic. Putting my phone on the other side of the room has really been one of my life savers. It’s my most effective way to get out of bed on time so far. If you don’t get up it will irritate your partner and the last thing you want to be is the reason he or she is in a bad morning mood! I remember my first three days as self torture, yes it was that bad! But I went through it and before I even realized, it all started to happen very natural. After a week or two I noticed the benefits of doing this consistently. I felt less tired, less cranky, more focused and crazy enough, I got more and more excited to get up! Who would have thought… Give it a try and feel the difference for yourself. You can thank me later. Or not ;-).

3) Drink a glass of water
Depending on your sleeping habits, you just slept for 6 to 8 hours so your body is dehydrated. The first thing to do is to hydrate your body in order to maintain a healthy metabolism. It has been scientifically proven that drinking a large glass of water first thing in the morning, works very beneficial for your metabolism. It will give your body the boost it needs and a clear mind to start with your workout. I always add a little bit of aloe vera to my water. I always suffered from a bloated feeling so this really helped me to get rid of it. It’s a healthy habit I created for myself for over 3 years now and I can’t imagine my morning without.

This is the aloe vera I use. It comes with a mango flavor which by the way helps you to not need any other sugar drinks.

4) Put together a motivating playlist
When you decide to go for it after reading this post, the first thing to do is to put together your favorite workout playlist. This is essential to stay motivated in the morning. Music has the spontaneous skill to bring out the best in you. It’s the first thing I do in the morning, putting on some nice tunes really works as a great mood booster. I guess it’s one of the main reasons why I never suffer from a bad morning mood.
For inspiration you can always find my favorite morning workout playlist on spotify.

5) Know which workout you will do
Time is precious so again planning is very essential! For me it’s very simple. Every morning I have my live morning workout with my challengers so I know exactly what to expect and what to do. It takes no longer than 7 to 10 minutes so it will not take too much time of your morning. The short-term results are that you will start to feel a big difference in your mood and energy level. On long-term you will see that your body will start to make changes just by giving yourself 7 to 10 minutes quality time each morning. My morning workout is a combination of cardio and strength, using nothing but my body weight.

6) Be part of a community
Motivation is a result of excitement. We’re able to excite ourselves for only a little period of time. When the excitement of starting something new has faded, real character and motivation will reveal its self. You will never always be motivated, you’ll need to train yourself to be consistent and this is usually the hardest part. If you surround yourself with people who are doing the exact same thing as you and are motivated and enthusiast, chances are that you will keep your focus and motivation much longer. I started my own fit girls community about 8 months ago and the satisfaction I get from that group is unreal. It forces me to be at my best every single day which makes it very easy to keep my personal results too. There will always be days that you feel like giving up, but quitting won’t speed it up. This group I have is full of women who are motivated and going 100% for their personal results. Just being part of this group will give you enough reasons and motivation to keep believing and to keep going. If you’re feeling alone in your fit journey or don’t know how to start, just ask me about our fit community and i’m happy to help.

7) Just do it!
The most obvious, yet the main reason why most people don’t have the results they would like to have. We all know that someday isn’t a day of the week. Tomorrow becomes next week and before you know it’s again one of those summers where regret is taking over. Just do it! Why not? Why wait? Why not feeling good in your skin? Why not starting your day with a good morning mood? The list goes on and on… If there is one thing I can promise you once you start to apply all of this, it’s the fact that you will add much more quality to your life. It’s not a thing, it’s a feeling. You too deserve it to feel great. Say NO to all your excuses. Too tired, too hard, too busy, too early,… if this is what’s keeping you off track, remember that there will come a day where it will be too late…
Go and make yourself proud and just do it!
